Fall Classic Final Game Draws Over 50 Million Viewers Across the US, Canadian and Japanese Markets.

The thrilling 11-inning matchup that saw the Los Angeles Dodgers defeat the Blue Jays 5-4 averaged a total 51M viewers in the United States, Canadian, and Japanese markets. Major League Baseball reported this marks the highest-rated World Series Game 7 after the 1991 edition showdown between the Twins and Braves.

Television Ratings Details

The Saturday memorable game drew 27.33M audience members on Fox channels, Fox Deportes and their streaming platforms. Per Nielsen, it was the second most-watched broadcast of the previous week.

It also stands as the top-rated World Series game after the 2017 edition final game between the Dodgers and Houston Astros, which drew over 29 million. This represents a 16% increase compared to the last finale featuring the Washington Nationals and Houston Astros, which attracted 23.19 million viewers.

In the Nielsen ratings, the sixth game ranked fourth, the fourth game ranked seventh, the fifth game came in eighth, and Game 3 finished in 13th position.

Global Audience Numbers

In Canada, the climactic game averaged over 11 million watchers on Sportsnet and the French-language TVA Sports channel. This was the highest-rated English broadcast in the country since the 2010 edition Winter Olympics.

In Japan, where the final contest began at 9 PM local time, it drew 12 million viewers. This came after the previous Friday’s Game 6 – in which World Series Most Valuable Player Yoshinobu Yamamoto gave up one run in six innings – averaged 13.1 million viewers, making it the highest-rated Fall Classic matchup on a single network in Japan.

Overall Totals and Trends

The full seven-match series averaged 15.71M viewers on Fox, a two percent rise from the previous year’s Dodgers-Yankees matchup. This marks the initial instance after 2015 and 2016 that the Fall Classic has seen viewership growth for two consecutive years.

Including the opening game broadcast on Univision, the total US viewership reached 16.1 million. The total World Series viewership in Japan was 9.7M and 8.1 million in the Canadian market.

The full playoffs on Fox and its sister channels recorded 8.09 million watchers, an eight percent rise over the previous year and the network’s best postseason ratings since the 2017 season.

Major League Baseball reported that the World Series was televised in over 200 nations and regions by forty-four broadcasting partners in 16 various tongues.
